“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” - Oprah Winfrey
As we start to look back on this year, it is hard to escape the thought that we have been, to coin a phrase, “Unreasonably Blessed.” That’s a short way of saying, “God has shown his favor upon us beyond what is really reasonable based on what we deserve.”
Not that there haven’t been challenges--and certainly not to minimize the pain and suffering many people have experienced--but we have quite a bit to be thankful for. We highlighted a few of those things in the past few weeks with “Thankful Thursday” social media posts; we decided it would be nice to take a couple of moments and expand on those thoughts.
There’s no getting around the fact that 2020 started out a little rough for ClearBox. Through belt-tightening and maximizing our home offices, we stuck to the practice of preaching growth through tough times..and clients responded. Certain ones worked with us to “double down” on the marketing push in the difficult spring and summer months. Those that worked hardest to sustain and grow business during that time saw either marginal business retraction or actual growth. They shared their success stories with business-owning friends, who then turned to us to help them, as well.
When you read the news stories from the last six months, it’s a little hard to believe we grew through the COVID summer, but we did! And we owe it to an amazing group of clients that kept the faith with us.
It seems like each of us here at ClearBox has suffered some kind of family tragedy this year...either death or severe illness. While painful, it has served to illustrate just how important our family ties have been to us throughout the years...how the influence of parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, and significant others has helped to shape us.
From a young age, our parents steered us in the right direction, corrected us when we went wrong, and celebrated our wins because it meant they won at the same time. Our siblings often pushed us in uncomfortable ways, but it helped us toughen up mentally...and in some cases physically! Significant others help to bring more stability to our lives, while the kids we have with them can work to upset that stability just a little bit. With all of them we learn, we grow, we become more “ourselves.”
As I alluded to, I’m no stranger to freelance work. Truthfully, anyone here at ClearBox could be successful as a solo act...but it’s amazing how much better we can be working together. Of course, we have our differences in opinions and the ways we like to work, but pushed the right way, those points of tension end up becoming our strengths. We have learned to have each others’ back in difficult situations, encourage each other to make better decisions at both business and personal levels, and bring out the best in each other more often than not.
The team dynamic forces all of us to grow as we get challenged by a different team member. Whether it’s learning a new process, creating a better design, or bringing new ideas into the mix, as we rise to face these challenges our skills get honed and our minds grow stronger.
This would be a great time to mention those folks who “technically” aren’t our co-workers but have enriched our lives as they’ve shared office space with us. Lora serves as our “office mom” and sounding board for any number of crazy ideas we might have...as well as contributing quite a few of her own! Dan is a good friend and client that is always ready to talk music, movies, or baseball…”the best sport,” in his words.
Those are some of the “unreasonable blessings” we have found this year...what are you feeling thankful for? Leave a comment below!
